Week 1 Sep 21-25

Wow! I did not realize how hard it was going to be to find a preceptor. I do not work in a hospital. I work for a pediatrician M-F. It definitely decreased my contacts/candidates for a preceptor. Also, I had to find coverage for my schedule at work. Luckily, my fellow staff memebers understood the importance of these clinicals and offered to help in any way possible. I finally found someone who was willing to work with my schedule. I met with my preceptor for about 2 hours. She is the Nurse Manager for Women's Services at Medical Center of McKinney. She and I discussed what was required for the course and what goals I had in mind for my education. Also, we discussed the Change Paper that I will be working on for this course. Since I am taking NURS 4803 at the same time as 4823, I have to work ahead on one to keep up with the other. Overall, our visit was very informative and pleasant. I am actually looking forward to this clinical experience. I am interested to see what all a Nurse Manager's job position entails.
